Take Care of Your Health

If your health fails, it can overshadow everything else that's going on in your life. Taking care of your health has a big impact on you and your loved ones!

GETTING YOUR ANNUAL PHYSICAL

Getting regular checkups and exams is the best way to try to stay healthy and catch possible health risks. When caught early, health conditions are often easier to treat.

Several doctor visits are considered “preventive” and are covered by insurance at no cost to you. For a list of preventive visits that you are eligible for based on your age and gender, visit www.Anthem.com

Regardless of your medical insurance plan, ColonialWebb teammates can receive PTO hours to cover time away from work to complete an annual preventive wellness exam.

Taking Care of Your Health can also save you money! Schedule your annual physical (or women may use their well-woman visits) during the current plan year, and you will receive four (4) free additional hours of PTO and discounted insurance premiums for the following plan year.

If you have questions, contact Human Resources by emailing payroll@colonialwebb.com or (804)916-1400.

BLOOD PRESSURE

The American Heart Association says that nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure, and don’t even know it. The best way to know if you have high blood pressure is to have your blood pressure checked.

In addition to visiting your doctor each year, it’s a great idea to check your blood pressure on a regular basis. High blood pressure is called the “silent killer”, so getting it checked is the only way to know your numbers. Blood pressure is a key risk factor when assessing your risk for many conditions including heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

And to make it even easier to check your blood pressure, you can now also check your numbers at work. Blood pressure cuffs are located in each office and at some large job sites

MEN’S HEALTH

Men typically visit the doctor less than women do. Whether that’s because men are afraid of what they might be told at an annual checkup, they dread the probes that can be part of an exam, they’re locked into a mindset of toughing it out, or some other excuse, there’s really no good reason NOT to see a healthcare provider regularly. Just like women, men may also be affected by common conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or depression. They may also have conditions that are specific only to men.

What’s more, keeping up with preventative medical visits is not something you should do just for yourself. It’s also something that your family and loved ones can benefit from. Review the checklist to see if you meet the checkups and screenings guidelines.

WOMEN’S HEALTH

Staying healthy is not the most challenging thing you’ll ever do, but it takes effort and vigilance. One part of that effort is getting appropriate screening tests, which are used to detect potential health problems when they’re still treatable.

The screening tests you’ll need will change as you age. However, once you start a test, it will likely be required periodically for the rest of your life.

Checkups, screenings, and treatments may differ based on your health status and risk factors. Check with your primary care provider to discuss which will benefit you.

Review the checklist to see if you meet the checkups and screenings guidelines.
